Port Royal 4th of July Celebration, Historic Port Royal

Although the ground was wet from the previous evening's rainfall, the morning was sunny and warm with a nice breeze. Located in a park across from St. John's Church, we were fortunate to raise our tent under the shade of some massive trees.
As part of the Civil War Fashion Show, Lyn introduced Naomi and Trip as lower sorts, Bettie and Catherine as a middlin' couple, and Sandra and Dennis as gentry, talking a bit about their eighteenth-century personas and describing their attire.
Dance Mistress Elaine and the RCHS Dancers performed "Young Widow," "Childgrove" and "Prince William" for the crowd.
It was a very full day. Young Michael mastered walking on stilts and assisted many a boy and girl in doing the same. (Was that Catherine taking a few steps?) Children and their families learned to play bowls, quoits, graces and other games. Others joined us to dance "Morning Gazette." We had a wonderful lunch and a delightful day.
